Cea Weaver<\/a> is over 35, with over a decade\u2019s experience as a hard-knuckled professional advocate battling in New York politics \u2014 so why the heck did she burst into tears Wednesday when asked about her long history of remarks about the \u201cviolence\u201d and \u201cracism\u201d of private property, which she wants the government to \u201cseize\u201d?<\/p>\n

As chief of the Mayor\u2019s Office to Protect Tenants, she\u2019s messing with people\u2019s homes, their lives, their lifesavings \u2014 and imperiously claiming all their private property is evil: They have every right to demand some explanations.<\/p>\n

Maybe she wept at being revealed as a wee bit hypocritical: For all her claims that \u201cprivate property and ESPECIALLY homeownership\u201d is a \u201cweapon of white supremacy,\u201d she herself comes from a well-off family.<\/p>\n

Weaver\u2019s mom and dad each own comfortable suburban homes. <\/p>\n

Are they white supremacists?<\/p>\n

Instead of being (upper) middle class, should they be \u201cimpoverished,\u201d as she prescribes for so many others?<\/p>\n

If not, why not?<\/p>\n

Meet the press<\/p>\n

Again, Weaver has long been in the public eye: She led the 2019 charge in Albany to end rent decontrol and spearheaded the \u201cCancel Rent\u201d movement in 2020, saying rental payments should be done on the \u201chonor system\u201d and no one should ever be evicted.<\/p>\n

And she knew that her demands to \u201cElect more communists!\u201d were controversial, which is why she recently deleted her X account and so on: You only scrub your social media if it\u2019s dirty.<\/p>\n

Fact is, Weaver has spent her adult life in yet another privileged bubble \u2014 a blue-state leftist one: Democratic socialist struggle sessions may get ferocious, but only with some unwritten \u201csafe space\u201d ground rules. E.g., everyone in those circles implicitly agrees that their family backgrounds can\u2019t be held against them, because they\u2019re nearly all \u201cclass traitors.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why it\u2019s all right for arch-radical Zohran Mamdani<\/a> and his wife to have three wedding celebrations on three continents, to revel in the premium experience of gobbling omakase and to wear $700 boots.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s OK for them to own vacation homes and enjoy the finer things because they have the right opinions; it\u2019s the people not enlightened about the finer points of socialist doctrine who are the problem.<\/p>\n

So when folks outside the charmed circle snicker at Cea Weaver\u2019s hypocrisy<\/a>, she faces an unfamiliar, existential threat: None of her allies would ever be so vulgar as to point it out.<\/p>\n

Yet she\u2019s now a public official, who needs to be able to speak to the voters about what she really believes and plans to do \u2014 especially to those homeowners (many, perhaps most, of them not white) she means to see dispossessed.<\/p>\n
