Police say a patient wielding a makeshift knife was shot and killed by NYPD officers inside NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.<\/p>\n
Authorities say they received multiple 911 calls around 5:27 p.m. Friday for a violent man barricaded and armed with a knife. They were informed that the man had cut himself and other people while threatening to kill hospital staff.<\/p>\n
Officers responded to the eighth-floor room six minutes later and observed blood spattered all over the walls, floor and on the exterior of the door, police say. Two other people were inside the room: a patient in his 70s and a hospital security guard in his 50s, both of whom he had threatened to kill.<\/p>\n
Police say the man came to the door frame holding the bloody weapon.<\/p>\n
Officers stood at the door, ordering the man to drop the weapon. Authorities say the man refused and attempted to close the door.<\/p>\n
When the man stepped toward officers, still holding the weapon, officers simultaneously and ineffectively deployed a taser and a firearm, according to police.<\/p>\n
As officers attempted to kick the door open, the man came toward them a second time, and they ineffectively deployed tasers a second time.<\/p>\n
Authorities say officers then deployed their firearms, striking the man.
