SW, MSIT also victorious"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"32MBVPUUNNDVFIO3LXOMG2DK7E\">STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Xavier Farley posted a triple-double and head coach Danny Lee became CSI\/McCown\u2019s all-time wins leader after the Dragons posted a 66-46 PSAL 3A victory over visiting Petrides Thursday in New Springville.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KR25IWZM2VEFJNSRN4C2LYXQWA\">Farley, a junior, finished with 11 points, 15 rebounds and 12 blocks for the Dragons, who improved to 8-7 overall, including 5-4 in league play. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"EF3JFXY5G5ELLFM64YUL6BC3CA\">CSIM had three other players finish with double digits in points, including Pat Tucker (16 points, 4 steals), Danny O\u2019Connor (14 points, five assists), Stanley Kushnir (11 points, five assists).<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"2CG72AOBPNFZLIZOBMBWA6C57Y\">Lee, who is in his ninth season overall (eight not including the abbreviated 2020-21 schedule because of the pandemic), notched his 69th victory to surpass ex-coach Ray Palma as CSIM\u2019s all-time wins leader.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"TT6P4YAYFZF3RG6PW4F6PEBTUM\">\u201cBreaking the record is about all the great young men I\u2019ve been honored to coach and having a dedicated coaching staff,\u2019&#8217; said Lee. \u201dEspecially assistant coach Larry Tirone, who has helped improve every member of our program \u2014 players, managers and coaches over the eight seasons we\u2019ve been together.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"MDUCK734XBFKHIOYXAPWT2IILE\">Lee also praised his predecessor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"IS2HDVQXEZBHDB6VM7AV5MQN44\">\u201cI\u2019m forever thankful to Ray Palma for hiring me as the first JV head coach in 2011,\u2019&#8217; added Lee. \u201dI also assisted Ray for five seasons on the varsity before coaching McKee\/Staten Island Tech\u2019s JV for a season before returning to become CSIM\u2019s varsity coach prior to the 2017-18 season. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"TBBABLRFRNG5THHKML2MKRZO3E\">\u201cThe number of wins is far less significant to the number of relationships I\u2019ve formed with administrators, players, parents and the community throughout these eight seasons.\u2019&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"M37RCRP4CFBCDGCYAILD3W2HKY\">Daynell Rowland and Sonyboy Zintamus led Petrides (3-11, 2-7 PSAL) with 16 and 12 points, respectively. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"Q3JDGSBAWJHWXAYX45ORNM7N4Y\">CSIM, which defeated Petrides for the third time this season (including Christmas Tournament game), wasted little time building a double-digit lead in the first quarter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"3333N26CBRE2BPC5FQJVTT6TSY\">O\u2019Connor scored 10 points, including both of his treys, and Farley and Tucker added six points apiece as the Dragons raced to a 26-12 lead at quarter\u2019s end.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"DHMUKS7W3NHFNAPOF6LIXRSMKE\">Lee credited his team\u2019s defense for the victory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"BJNZPXSFWJCMJHVACODC6JOY5M\">\u201cThe defensive effort was tremendous tonight and the result of two great practices before this game,\u2019&#8217; he said. \u201cWe were focused on stopping Rowland after his 42-point performance vs. Tottenville on Monday and we did a great job holding him to five points at halftime.\u2019&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"C46H6WVFQ5AS5L2QYV5IXPGAAQ\">The Dragons picked up where they left off in the second period as Tucker\u2019s eight points (two treys) helped them take a 41-25 lead into the half and they cruised the rest of the way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"OIYVBITTGRBOZBTRQ2UYKWKEJ4\">\u201cWe have won three in a row, four of our last five and it\u2019s in direct correlation of sharing the ball and increasing our defensive intensity,\u2019&#8217; Lee continued. \u201dXavier Farley was dominant on the defensive end like he has been all season, including a career-high 12 blocks.\u2019&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"E325ZA3ZBJE4LF6F2H6WM44VEM\">Susan Wagner 76, Boys and Girls 61<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"X52ZE4PVDFEHLC4LQQRVB5SFAI\">STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Point guard Chris Albano scored a game-high 24 points and junior Clevi Hoxha added a career-high 18 markers as the Falcons cruised to the PSAL 4A victory over the visiting Kangaroos in Sea View.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"JFNYRIZUNJBXRAYOMZJEU7H76Q\">Albano\u2019s effort included a 12-for-12 performance from the free-throw line while Hoxha contributed six rebounds and six assists for SW, which improved to 13-4 overall (6-2 league).<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"GE6DK24TCZG6VLGHV7K3FL47JE\">\u201cClevi had back-to-back outstanding games,\u2019&#8217; praised SW head coach Danny Lanigan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ENHUDG4CLNCTDGXRDR5YUZMN4U\">Charles Gambino added 10 points and Darin Humes-James and Adem Djonbalic teamed for another 12 markers for the Falcons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"C7MIIPYBLVG2TAKHAEEAUXHKXU\">Justin Scott and Sebastian Fernandez finished with 19 and 13 points, respectively, for the Kangaroos (3-6 overall, 1-6 PSAL).<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HIZS3T5XZRC6VM4FEAWN4UIPJU\">Albano and Hoxha had 10 points apiece as the Falcons raced to a 35-27 halftime advantage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"PU5RWL6UNREDBIUGTZFPGXIFQI\">Wagner never took its foot off the pedal in the second half as six different players found the scoring column in the third quarter. Albano scored four and Humes-James and Djonbalic each added a three as Lanigan\u2019s troops built a 54-40 advantage going into the fourth and never looked back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZMB3TDB4DJADRONNVQ5GHV74XI\">MSIT 84, Eagle Academy SI 48<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"AO744BFDABHPJM7UJNZ2OSWBQI\">STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Terence Legrand and Ray Guerriero scored 17 points apiece and the Seagulls had a strong second half as they earned the PSAL 3A win over host Eagle at the Dreyfus Intermediate School in Stapleton.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6PGHAFDNE5FV3HQX733LFWIEJY\">In addition to Legrand and Guerriero, Dalton Cherubin (14 points), Nizayah Jordan (11 points) and Lucas Gavin (11 points) also contributed offensively for MSIT. Head coach Charlie Donohue\u2019s squad improved to 10-6 overall (6-3 PSAL).<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7O4N3C5MXZBZNAOZBTSJY4DJXM\">Justin Webley finished with 15 points while Juneek Daniels and Armani Perez tallied 11 and 10 points, respectively for Eagle (6-10 overall, 3-6 PSAL).<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"PBTS4P7OQ5ELBAF7E4KBV4GB2Q\">Cherubin scored eight first-half points, but Eagle went punch-for-punch with the Seagulls behind Webley and Perez (eight points apiece).
