We recently called out this East Village\u00a0eatery as our number one restaurant in NYC<\/a>. Inadvertently, we also found our new number one bar in a similar stretch of lower Manhattan. <\/p>\n

It isn’t too surprising: a stellar number of drinking dens\u00a0call\u00a0the East Village home, from a new-ish Caribbean affair where daiquiris reign supreme<\/a> to an iconic, speakeasy-esque haunt<\/a> that kickstarted a cocktail renaissance. Our new number one follows the same line of greatness, dishing out matcha and mint frozens, plus\u00a0salad Negronis, a glorious snack best enjoyed fresh from the bag and also home to one of the best bathrooms<\/a>\u00a0we’ve seen in sometime. Without\u00a0further ado:\u00a0Bar Snack<\/a> is officially our number one bar in New York right now.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Although it only turned one last November,\u00a0the East Village bar has already racked up some well-earned recognition:\u00a0it was a finalist\u00a0in the \u201cBest New Cocktail Bar\u201d category of the Spirited Awards hosted by the industry-minded festival and expo, Tales of the Cocktail<\/a>, and\u00a0it also landed\u00a0in the number 85 spot on North America’s Best Bars<\/a>\u00a0ranking.<\/p>\n

Hawking \u201cdressed up classics for dressed down people,\u201d the bar earned a top spot on our list for its whiskey sours with smooth toppers of Guinness, bitter-heavy Twisted Tea\u2019s served from the same can\u00a0and a frozen that drinks like a “limeade popsicle but with a touch of smoke.\u201d And, if it wasn\u2019t clear by the name, the bar also has a killer list of snacks, particularly the Spice Bag that\u2019s sure to soak up any bad behavior, spilling open with buttermilk-fried tendies, steaming hot fries and peppers and a curry sauce to bring it all home. And their bday bag with NOLA’s Turkey and The Wolf with sweet potato fries, pickled onions and a mess of “lots of dank herbs”? Lets just say we can only hope for future bag drops in 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ignacio \u201cNacho\u201d Jimenez\u2019s Superbueno<\/a>, a red-lit Mexican American cocktail bar, lands at number two, bolstered by its sweet-and-spicy Green Mango Martini and the effervescent Vodka Y Soda, which \u201chas an underlying but never overwhelming heat\u2026evened out with a cooling guava pur\u00e9e and bubbly soda.\u201d <\/p>\n

Downtown Brooklyn\u2019s Sunken Harbor Club<\/a> takes the number-three spot for its full commitment to the \u201ctiki-bar-in-a-sunken-ship\u201d aesthetic and its \u201cspin on almost every tiki favorite, plus a selection of more novel\u2014but not banana\u2014concoctions.\u201d<\/p>\n

And our best cocktail bar for 2025<\/a>, schmuck.<\/a>, sits comfortably at number five; its \u201cgussied-up lounge\u201d is home to highballs that \u201cburst with tomato sweetness\u201d and \u201cpeanutty tipples that hum with a chili-oil-spiked heat.\u201d<\/p>\n

Naturally, our list includes more than just cocktail bars. Chinatown\u2019s Sunn\u2019s<\/a>, the \u201clittle place for banchan and wine,\u201d lands at number nine, while Williamsburg\u2019s Sauced<\/a>\u2014with its menu-less approach\u2014invites an impromptu wine tasting every time you visit. Beer halls and bars are also in the mix, including Talea Beer Co. Taproom and Harlem Hops<\/a>.<\/p>\n
