{"id":95180,"date":"2026-01-09T21:19:16","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T21:19:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/95180\/"},"modified":"2026-01-09T21:19:16","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T21:19:16","slug":"recidivist-drunk-driver-and-li-bar-owner-faces-hit-and-run-charge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/95180\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Recidivist drunk driver&#8217; and LI bar owner faces hit and run charge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Long Island bar owner and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nassauda.org\/m\/newsflash\/Home\/Detail\/1909\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">recidivist drunk driver<\/a>\u201d whose license was revoked 10 years ago has been charged in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/teddysbullybar.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Teddy\u2019s Bully Bar<\/a> proprietor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsday.com\/lifestyle\/restaurants\/teddys-bully-bar-oyster-bay-u41195\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Leonard Gross<\/a> was arraigned Thursday on charges including <a href=\"https:\/\/dmv.ny.gov\/points-and-penalties\/penalties-for-alcohol-or-drug-related-violations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">driving while intoxicated<\/a>, vehicular assault and leaving the scene of an incident that left a pedestrian seriously injured in the spring, according to a news release from Nassau County prosecutors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis defendant is a recidivist drunk driver, and on the evening of the crash, was on our roads with a license that had been revoked nearly a decade before,\u201d said Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly.<\/p>\n<p>The 67-year-old defendant from Syosset pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors claim video and witness statements prove Gross consumed \u201cmultiple drinks\u201d at his <a href=\"https:\/\/oysterbaytown.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Oyster Bay<\/a> bar before getting behind the wheel and mowing over a pedestrian with his 2025 Dodge Ram pick-up truck shortly after 9 p.m. on May 17.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis man should have never been on the road,\u201d according to Donnelly. \u201cNow, we will hold him accountable for his criminal actions and the harm he caused.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gross is accused of striking his victim in a crosswalk, then running them over and speeding away. Surveillance video and license plate readers led police officers to the defendant\u2019s driveway where they claim to have seen blood under Gross\u2019s truck.<\/p>\n<p>The victim was treated for multiple broken ribs, chest and lung injuries and facial lacerations at Nassau University Medical Center.
