Thousands of people marched from Grand Army Plaza to Bartel Pritchard Square to denounce President Donald Trump and his policies as part of the nationwide No Kings march on Saturday, Oct. 18. <\/p>\n

Roughly 3,000 Brooklynites marched through Park Slope on Saturday to denounce President Donald Trump and his cabinet as part of the nationwide No Kings march.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

Waving signs and banners with slogans like \u201cUnited We Stand, divided Democracy Falls\u201d and \u201cKings Are For Fairytales,\u201d protestors of all ages marched from Grand Army Plaza to Bartel Pritchard Square, pushing back against the administration\u2019s \u201cchaos, corruption, and cruelty.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The first round of No Kings marches swept across the country in June<\/a> \u2014 on the same day as Trump\u2019s \u201cGrand Military Parade\u201d \u2014 in opposition to presidential policies and actions seen as authoritarian. Just five months later, the scope of the protest had grown, as New Yorkers pushed back against mass arrests of immigrants by masked federal agents, the deployment of federal forces to cities around the U.S., damaging spending cuts,<\/a> the ongoing government shutdown, and more.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In recent weeks, Trump has frozen<\/a> billions of dollars in funding for infrastructure projects in New York City and attempted to<\/a> take back $34 million in security funding from the MTA because the agency is \u201cbased in a Sanctuary Jurisdiction city.\u201d<\/p>\n

The president has also vowed to<\/a> cut federal funding to New York City if Zohran Mamdani wins the mayoral election and denounced the candidate as a communist.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Cheeto has some nerve calling anyone anything, look at what he\u2019s doing to this wonderful country,\u201d said one Brooklyn marcher, Phil Marks.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

The first No Kings event in Brooklyn drew a crowd of just about 250 people, organizers said, and the crowd grew exponentially in the space of just four months.\n<\/p>\n

Brooklyn\u2019s march was a companion to the anchor protest in Manhattan<\/a>, which drew a crowd of roughly 100,000 people. Organizers said online<\/a> that the Park Slope march was an alternative to \u201caccommodate local people\u201d who couldn\u2019t get to Manhattan \u2014 but urged Brooklynites to head to the main march \u201cif at all possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

A number of Brooklyn\u2019s local elected officials marched in Manhattan \u2014 including U.S. Rep. Nydia Vel\u00e1zquez and Council Members Chi Oss\u00e9 and Alexa Avil\u00e9s.\n<\/p>\n

I joined 10s of thousands of New Yorkers today to say it loud and clear: No to tyranny. No to cruelty. No to kings in America,\u201d Vel\u00e1zquez said on X<\/a>. \u201cThe GOP can smear these protests all they want, but they can\u2019t silence the truth.
