{"id":95323,"date":"2026-01-09T23:20:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T23:20:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/95323\/"},"modified":"2026-01-09T23:20:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T23:20:07","slug":"statewide-investigation-cites-nearly-100-medical-spas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/95323\/","title":{"rendered":"Statewide investigation cites nearly 100 medical spas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The New York state Department of State is warning consumers about unlicensed medical spas after a statewide investigation led to 223 being inspected and 87 cited.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe saw and observed anything from expired licenses to suspected counterfeit products to controlled substances,\u201d said Secretary Walter Mosley of the state Department of State.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on the citation, the penalty ranges from paying fines to a business having its license suspended or revoked.<\/p>\n<p>Officials say some consumers reported experiencing poisoning, allergic reactions, burns and double vision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we are seeing is unfortunately a terrible trend of consumers being exposed to individuals who might be under licensed or not licensed at all in terms of their medical background to conduct these medical procedures,\u201d said Mosley.<\/p>\n<p>The procedures include everything from Botox injections to cool sculpting and peels.<\/p>\n<p>Spectrum News 1 looked at the Capital Region where 23 med spas were inspected and 18 were cited.
