{"id":95777,"date":"2026-01-10T14:26:21","date_gmt":"2026-01-10T14:26:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/95777\/"},"modified":"2026-01-10T14:26:21","modified_gmt":"2026-01-10T14:26:21","slug":"david-cone-out-at-espn-in-mlb-coverage-shakeup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/95777\/","title":{"rendered":"David Cone out at ESPN in MLB coverage shakeup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Veteran baseball analyst and longtime pitcher David Cone is no longer with ESPN.<\/p>\n<p>Cone, according to multiple reports, did not have his contract renewed as the Worldwide Leader is undergoing a broader shakeup of its Major League Baseball coverage ahead of the 2026 season.<\/p>\n<p>The 1994 American League Cy Young winner\u2019s run at ESPN ends after joining the network in 2022 as part of its \u201cSunday Night Baseball\u201d announcing team.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/frontofficesports.com\/david-cone-out-at-espn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Front Office Sports reported<\/a> on\u00a0Friday that Cone, who will continue working on YES Network for Yankees games, was a casualty of ESPN trading the rights to MLB\u2019s\u00a0\u201cSunday Night Baseball\u201d to NBC for a package of games that will take place midweek.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38144533\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/GettyImages-2162580136.jpg\" alt=\"David Cone throws the ceremonial first pitch prior to the game between the New York Mets and the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 in New York, New York. \" class=\"wp-image-38144533\"\/>David Cone throws the ceremonial first pitch prior to the game between the New York Mets and the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 in New York, New York.  MLB Photos via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unknown if Cone, a five-time All-Star who pitched in the Majors from 1986 to 2003, will be joining the growing MLB team at NBC for their \u201cSunday Night Baseball\u201d coverage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe appreciate David\u2019s many contributions to our Major League Baseball coverage and wish him the best,\u201d an ESPN spokesperson told FOS.<\/p>\n<p>Cone quickly became one of ESPN\u2019s more respected baseball voices during his time with the company.<\/p>\n<p>His career as an analyst follows a lengthy tenure as a standout MLB pitcher.<\/p>\n<p>Cone pitched for the Mets from 1987 to 1992, and was later part of the Yankees\u2019 four World Series titles from 1996-2000 after joining the team via trade in 1995.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38144531\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/GettyImages-1241594319.jpg\" alt=\"Former New York Yankees David Cone poses for a photo prior to the game between the New York Yankees and the Houston Astros at Yankee Stadium on June 24, 2022 in New York City.
