It only took a week for Mayor Zohran Mamdani to vomit up the anti-cop hostility<\/a> that he kept down to win in November.<\/p>\n

His first response to two officer-involved shootings Thursday night was insanely slanted, implying New York City cops are guilty<\/a> until proven innocent \u2014 when the facts in both cases showed the officers in fact performed heroically.<\/p>\n

Frantic security officers at Brooklyn\u2019s Methodist Hospital called in the NYPD to handle a man who had sliced himself, bloodied a hallway and barricaded himself with two hostages in a hospital room. <\/p>\n

Cops tried to reason with the madman for seven minutes, tased him and then, when he advanced with his edged weapon, shot him \u2014 fatally, it turned out.<\/p>\n

Later that evening, a motorist who had just been sideswiped by a BMW in the West Village flagged down officers for assistance. <\/p>\n

As they approached the reckless driver\u2019s car, he stepped out and aimed an apparent gun at them: They quickly drew and acted to protect their lives and the lives of bystanders.<\/p>\n

Yes, the weapon turned out to be a realistic-looking air pistol, but they had no way of knowing that. <\/p>\n

Some police shootings are complicated, the officer\u2019s judgment questionable, at least to outsiders; these incidents, however, were clean, reasonable uses of force by any standard.<\/p>\n

Yet the mayor\u2019s first comment, Friday morning, was to call the shootings \u201cdevastating to all New Yorkers\u201d without any note of the obvious fact that the cops were simply doing their jobs.<\/p>\n

Then he announced \u201cthe NYPD is conducting an internal investigation\u201d that he\u2019d ensure \u201cis as thorough and swift as possible\u201d \u2014 implying that the department might sweep something under the rug if he weren\u2019t on top of things.<\/p>\n

Worse, he preached: \u201cThese tragedies are painful, whether they take place steps from our homes or miles away\u201d \u2014 an obvious wave at the Minneapolis shooting \u2014 and talked of \u201cthe immense work that must be done to deliver genuine public safety.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Minneapolis, he\u2019d already labeled the shooting of Renee Good a \u201cmurder,\u201d an inflammatory and unsolicited verdict on a controversial case amid a nationwide spate of attacks on federal agents, then went on MS NOW to declare ICE a rogue agency acting with \u201creckless impunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Worse is the wave at \u201cimmense work\u201d needed to yield \u201cgenuine public safety\u201d here in New York \u2014 a clear declaration that these incidents indicate we don\u2019t have such safety now, clearly implying that he believes the cops were in the wrong both times.<\/p>\n

Of course, the \u201cimmense work\u201d he already plans involves replacing police with social workers, defunding the NYPD to hire \u201cviolence interrupters\u201d and sending mental-health counselors to deal with maniacs rampaging through hospitals.<\/p>\n

Hours later, no doubt after getting an earful from Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, he finally acknowledged the \u201cdifficult and dangerous circumstances\u201d the officers faced in both shootings.<\/p>\n

Note, too, that this so-called \u201cson of Queens\u201d took the time to throw shade on heroic cops but not to condemn the vile protestors<\/a> who chanted \u201cWe support Hamas here\u201d outside a Kew Gardens synagogue Thursday night.<\/p>\n

Gov. Kathy Hochul, City Council Speaker Julie Menin and Queens Beep Donovan Richards \u2014 among many others \u2014 all took care to denounce this overt antisemitism.<\/p>\n

Mamdani? <\/p>\n

Only when The Post pressed for comment did he say, \u201cI think that that language is wrong. I think that language has no place in New York City.\u201d<\/p>\n
