VOORHEESVILLE, N.Y. (WRGB) \u2014 The Voorheesville Central School District announced that it was the victim of a cyber-fraud incident that resulted in the unauthorized transfer of approximately $1 million from its Capital Construction Fund.<\/p>\n

In a statement posted Thursday, the district said it became aware of the incident on Oct. 8 and has been working closely with law enforcement.<\/p>\n

School officials said that approximately $750,000 of the funds had been successfully recovered as of the announcement.<\/p>\n

The district is collaborating with the New York State Police, with assistance from the FBI and the United States Secret Service, on what it called an “active and ongoing investigation.”<\/p>\n

Efforts are continuing to recover the remaining amount.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the district said:<\/p>\n

In the event that full recovery is not possible, the district will seek reimbursement through its existing cyber insurance coverage to mitigate any financial impact.<\/p>\n

School officials extended “sincere appreciation” to the law enforcement agencies for their “immediate response, diligence and expertise” in the investigation.<\/p>\n
