{"id":96508,"date":"2026-01-11T16:33:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T16:33:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/96508\/"},"modified":"2026-01-11T16:33:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T16:33:07","slug":"ny-nurses-union-threatens-strike-with-hours-until-deadline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/96508\/","title":{"rendered":"NY nurses union threatens strike with hours until deadline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The union representing <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/02\/us-news\/20k-nyc-nurses-warn-they-will-go-on-strike-in-just-10-days-if-wage-hike-demands-arent-met\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York nurses threatened to strike <\/a>at the city\u2019s major privately-run hospitals if a new labor contract isn\u2019t locked in or major progress isn\u2019t made on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The New York State Nurse Association will strike Monday at hospitals including <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/tag\/new-york-presbyterian-hospital\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NY Presbyterian<\/a>, Mount Sinai and Montefiore medical after testy negotiations and an apparent impasse over salaries and benefits, including medical coverage and staffing levels.<\/p>\n<p>Hospital officials said they have prepared strike contingency plans to continue medical appointments and care.<\/p>\n<p>The New York State Nurse Association will strike Monday at hospitals including NY Presbyterian, Mount Sinai and Montefiore medical over salaries and benefits. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we know a strike can be disruptive, we are prepared for a strike that could last an indefinite amount of time and have taken every step to best support our patients and employees in the event NYSNA forces our nurses to walk away from the bedside for the second time in three years,\u201d a Mount Sinai spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>Mount Sinai said it has hired more than 1,000 nurses across its three hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe expect most appointments will proceed as originally scheduled,\u201d the statement said. \u201cThere has been tremendous coordination across our entire network to manage discharges and ensure that we are prepared for the start of the strike and able to increase our capacity if a potential strike drags on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are prepared for a strike that could last an indefinite amount of time and have taken every step to best support our patients and employees,\u201d a Mount Sinai spokesperson said. Christopher Sadowski<\/p>\n<p>NYSNA, in an advisory issued Sunday morning, said the strike will begin at 6 a.m. Monday at Mount Sinai Hospital and Mount Sinai Morningside and West facilities \u2013 and at 7 a.m. at Montefiore, and NewYork-Presbyterian hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>Key sticking points in negotiations, according to NYSNA, include management\u2019s threats to cut healthcare benefits for frontline nurses, and rolling back safe staffing standards the union secured when its nurses <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/01\/12\/new-york-city-nurses-strike-ends-after-deal-reached-with-hospitals\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">went on strike at two major hospitals three years ago<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The union also claimed hospital management has refused to agree to protections from workplace violence.<\/p>\n<p>Key sticking points in negotiations, according to NYSNA, include management\u2019s threats to cut healthcare benefits for frontline nurses, and rolling back safe staffing standards the union secured from a strike three years ago.
