STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 A Tompkinsville man is facing charges of driving while intoxicated after crashing into several parked cars in Great Kills early Sunday morning, an NYPD spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

Joseph Calvello, 26, of Oxford Place, was taken into custody just after 3 a.m. Sunday after his white 2025 Hyundai Tucson slammed into a Jeep and a BMW parked in front of a home on the 3000 block of Hylan Boulevard, between Hillside Terrace and Whitman Avenue.<\/p>\n

The vehicles\u2019 owner, Paul, who requested only his first name be published, said his two cars were legally parked in front of his home while he was out of town. He was able to provide Advance\/SILive.com with doorbell camera footage of the incident.<\/p>\n

The 40-second clip shows the white Hyundai careening in from the left side of the frame and slamming directly into both the white Jeep and silver BMW before spinning around and coming to a stop facing the opposite direction. <\/p>\n

The Jeep flips onto its passenger side and lands on the sidewalk, while the BMW rolls forward, stopping short of striking another parked car. It\u2019s alarm starts screaming, shattering the quiet of the sleeping neighborhood. <\/p>\n

\u201cThank God the driver didn\u2019t get hurt,\u201d Paul said. \u201cThat was pretty serious.\u201d<\/p>\n

Photos of Paul\u2019s vehicles show significant driver\u2019s-side and undercarriage damage to the Jeep, with one of its wheels hanging off. The BMW sustained extensive rear-end damage, with its bumper lying in the street behind it. The Hyundai suffered heavy front-end damage, and its detached bumper was left resting in the roadway.<\/p>\n

According to police, Calvello also struck a third parked vehicle. Paul said he believes that car was parked farther south on Hylan Boulevard and does not appear in the video footage.<\/p>\n

Paul said he is thankful that no one was inside either of his cars at the time of the crash. He noted that he\u2019s now beginning the process of dealing with his insurance company and securing loaner vehicles, adding that he hopes the driver of the Hyundai \u201cgets the help he needs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paul also recalled a moment he said was overheard as police were arresting the driver.<\/p>\n

\u201cA witness overheard the driver talking to police as they were putting the handcuffs on him,\u201d Paul said. \u201cHe said, \u2018I think you should call the NYPD.\u2019 They said, \u2018We\u2019re already here.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Calvello pleaded not guilty during his Sunday morning arraignment at Supreme Court, St. George. He was released on his own recognizance, and the case was adjourned until February, according to online court records.
