The outgoing head of the Big Apple\u2019s top business advocacy group<\/a> said Mayor Zohran Mamdani\u2019s team is treating local employers like the \u201cenemy\u201d \u2014 as she hoped Hizzoner would step into the void.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think there\u2019s reason to be nervous in the sense that so far what we\u2019ve heard on the business side is that we\u2019re not going to be doing economic development,\u201d Kathryn Wylde<\/a>, president and CEO of the Partnership of The City of New York, said Sunday on 77 WABC\u2019s the \u201cCats Roundtable.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to be doing economic justice \u2013 whatever that means,\u201d said Wylde, a member of Mamdani\u2019s transition team on economic and workforce development. \u201cIt\u2019s a lack of understanding of how important growth, economic growth, and job creation is to our city.\u201d<\/p>\n

The city has to support the private sector to \u201cconstantly grow,\u201d she added. <\/p>\n

\u201cMuch of the language coming out of City Hall right now \u2013 particularly from the co-chair of the transition committee Lina Khan<\/a> \u2013 sounds like business [and] employers are the enemy,\u201d Wylde said.<\/p>\n

Khan, the former Federal Trade Commission chair, has focused on alleged corporate abuses such as price gouging.<\/p>\n

Khan is said to be eyeing laws to curb algorithmic price discrimination, surveillance pricing and junk fees that could affect affordability, Bloomberg had reported.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s also looking to use the city\u2019s Department of Consumer and Worker Protection to check the power of technology companies, similar to her actions atop the FTC, according to the report.<\/p>\n

But Wylde was optimistic businesses could avoid an adversarial relationship with City Hall \u2014 if Mamdani steps up.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m hoping that the mayor is going to counter that and keep faith with his commitment to build a broad coalition and to work with the business community. But so far we haven\u2019t heard that clear message. That\u2019s what I am waiting for,\u201d she told host John Catsimatidis.<\/p>\n

She praised Mamdani in other areas, applauding the new mayor\u2019s decision to retain Jessica Tisch as police commissioner<\/a> and Dr. Mitchell Katz as head of Health+Hospitals.<\/p>\n

Wylde also applauded Mamdani\u2019 \u201c2-Care\u201d or expanded child care program jointly announced last week with Gov. Kathy Hochul, as well as his housing appointments.<\/p>\n

Mamdani\u2019s economic development program appears to be a weak link, she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe business community is prepared to step up and work with [Mamdani],\u201d added Wydle.<\/p>\n

Former Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop will succeed Wylde<\/a> as the Partnership\u2019s president and CEO.<\/p>\n
