STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Staten Island students were awarded for submitting valued legislative proposals that seek to address issues they feel are present in their community. <\/p>\n

Sen. Andrew Lanza sponsored his annual \u201cThere Ought To Be A Law\u201d contest to fifth-grade students across Staten Island. The contest commemorates students across the borough for their work, creativity, and passion to improve Staten Island and New York state.<\/p>\n

Students from schools throughout the borough took part in their annual law contest, with ideas like putting an end to bullying, addressing toll costs, public safety, animal safety, and more. Each participating school sent their submissions to Lanza\u2019s office, where winners were then selected. <\/p>\n

\u201cCongratulations to the students who participated in my annual \u2018There Ought To Be A Law\u2019 contest,\u201d said Lanza. \u201cEach student submitted an idea for a law that would benefit their community expressing genuine concern for fellow Staten Islanders. The students are observant and exhibited a maturity beyond their years \u2026 our future will be in good hands! I also want to thank their parents and educators for all their hard work to ensure our children are reaching their fullest potential.\u201d<\/p>\n

Forty-three students were recognized by Lanza at a ceremony last month at PS 32 in Great Kills. They each received a certificate acknowledging their law idea and for their dedication to make our Staten Island community better for everyone. <\/p>\n
