HALFMOON, N.Y.\u2014 Staten Island\u2019s top wrestlers showed their quality this past weekend in Saratoga County at the Eastern States Classic, a national-level tournament that drew over 500 athletes from more than a dozen states, including both nationally and state-ranked competitors.<\/p>\n
Monsignor Farrell High School was well-represented, with several standout performances. Quinn Hunt went 4-1 on the weekend, earning sixth place and handing New York State\u2019s No. 2-ranked wrestler, Danny Dacey of Saratoga Springs, a 16-9 defeat. <\/p>\n
Teammate Johnny Bonura also made a strong showing, going 3-2 to secure eighth place, while Albert Lula finished 2-2 for the Lions.<\/p>\n
Tottenville\u2019s Tristan Levin battled through a tough bracket, finishing 3-2. His only setback came in a narrow 5-3 loss to NYS No. 3-ranked Vincent Mastriani, who went on to claim second place.<\/p>\n
The weekend\u2019s results highlight the depth and talent of Staten Island wrestling, setting the stage for the next big competition. Up next for the borough\u2019s grapplers is the City Championship\u2014the Donald Douglas Memorial Tournament, formerly known as the Mayor\u2019s Cup\u2014which will be held January 17-18 at Michael J. Petrides High School. <\/p>\n

The Eagles dominated Cardinal Spellman at the College of Staten Island, cruising to an easy victory. The Eagles were led by multiple standout performances in the pool.<\/p>\n
Frank Conwell and Miles Boylan were quadruple winners for St. Peter\u2019s, as Conwell captured the 50-meter freestyle, 100-backstroke, and contributed to wins in both the 200-medley relay and 200-freestyle relay. Boylan also starred, taking first in the 200 intermediate and 100-butterfly, while swimming on the winning 200-medley and 200-freestyle relays.<\/p>\n
Nick Zahra and Mike Avitto each recorded three victories. Zahra won the 100-breaststroke and added key contributions in the 200-medley and 400-freestyle relays.
