{"id":98822,"date":"2026-01-13T16:28:39","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T16:28:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/98822\/"},"modified":"2026-01-13T16:28:39","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T16:28:39","slug":"staten-island-hs-boys-hoops-6-games-xavier-farley-big-1st-half-propel-csim-over-easi-sia-remains-undefeated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/98822\/","title":{"rendered":"Staten Island HS boys\u2019 hoops (6 games): Xavier Farley, big 1st half propel CSIM over EASI; SIA remains undefeated"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6UCTBRUREFBUHMRZEBCKJHGSMQ\">STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Junior Xavier Farley notched another double-double and CSI\/McCown rode a big first half to a 42-39 PSAL 3A victory over visiting Eagle Academy Staten Island on Monday in New Springville.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"L3LGVMWQRZAI3HEYZR7VMAR4YU\">The 6-foot-3 Farley finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds while adding five blocks for the 9-8 Dragons, who improved to 6-4 in division play and are now one win away from clinching a city playoff spot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"PDRV2T5F7FCT3NUR5RMDE2BKHM\">Stanley Kushnir (10 points, six rebounds), Patrick Tucker (nine points, three steals) and Danny O\u2019Connor (eight points, five assists) also contributed for CSIM.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7SVQ53IIKNBMBLHWUTU5KUPL2I\">Anthony Riley tallied a game-high 15 points and Justin Wembly (three treys) added 11 markers for Eagle (6-11, 3-7 PSAL).<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HUZRRP5BVRGSBEC5H6I4B545UY\">The Dragons opened the game on fire as they rode the play of Tucker (eight points), Farley (six points), O\u2019Connor (five points) and Kushnir (four points) to a commanding 22-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"G3IM2LVUSBDJBLSFOA7PFLDR6U\">Although CSIM was outscored 10-8 in the second, it still owned a 30-20 advantage at intermission.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KHJ5BJLQCZFN3ADQ5BCLEH444I\">The Dragons struggled offensively in the second half, but Kushnir and Farley teamed for nine points and their defense stayed strong as they held off Eagle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7DFT4YZJERH7RCLLIPV73FUPB4\">SIA 75, Leman 50<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ROKU247IHZFJVB6J76BK7PFGKM\">STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Staten Island Academy moved its win streak to a baker\u2019s dozen on Monday afternoon, as the now 13-0 Tigers defeated ACIS foe Leman Manhattan, 75-50. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"AZBTKBLBONH7ZGEXVVJ6NUSYB4\">The hosts were led in scoring by Gabe Moschella\u2019s 17 markers, while seniors Danny Nowak and Luke DeVito chipped in with 16 apiece.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"UCVLEV225JEIBOIHERCV2GKXOE\">SIA got off to a fast start in the first quarter as Ayden Howe kickstarted the Tigers\u2019 attack with four points and a pair of assists in the opening minutes. Johan Wielens provided a spark off the bench with four points in the period, and defensive pressure by SIA caused a number of Leman turnovers, leading to several fast-break opportunities for the Tigers. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"5EQXAFYXVZAIZJE5KQDVW5FC4I\">\u201cWe did a great job clogging the driving lanes, getting deflections, and rotating on defense in the first quarter,\u201d Tigers head coach, Mike Mazella, praised. \u201cIn the last two games, our defense has really been connected and I always like our chances when we can hold the opponent to 50 points or less, which we\u2019ve done in four of our last five games.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"AQSHFACDTBGJZHFKKZWJNF5N74\">Nowak connected for 12 first-half points, while DeVito and Howe struck for nine and seven, respectively, to help the Tigers head into halftime with a 37-18 lead. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"5BPSCAF2RBGOVAK3AVGHTI7YGA\">Moschella, then, would take over in the third quarter, as the talented junior benefited from some solid Tigers ball movement to pour in nine points during the period.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"CVIQNP2MPVDRXIAKJEAINFW5SU\">\u201cGabe has been fantastic over the last couple of games,\u201d Mazella noted, \u201cand in addition to his scoring, he\u2019s been tremendous on the boards and the defensive end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"Z4BK4GYKBNGD5F2MPXTYHTPA7A\">Leman, behind 18 second-half points from Cairo Reid, cut into the Tigers\u2019 lead at the start of the fourth quarter, but the hosts responded with a 26-point fourth quarter that saw SIA connect on three treys, two by sophomore Mike Belkin and one by senior Lorenzo Malpeso. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"TBQB37VHBVHJTG3EKWE4D737IU\">Point guard John Elefterakis played a strong floor game for SIA, notching five assists and running the Tigers\u2019 offense with precision. DeVito spearheaded the Tigers\u2019 defensive effort by recording four steals and five deflections.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"YC6YLSUPJ5CG5DKNWFY5HZGPCY\">SIA is back in action Wednesday when it hosts league rival Avenues in a matchup of two of the league\u2019s top teams.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7UUCRINXKRHB5E54QS4P2DW5TY\">Port Richmond 64, Petrides 49<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZAHIEHBTLRDDFEFG3XDXKIDR2Q\">STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Syncere Holland scored a career-high 21 points and the Raiders exploded for 25 fourth-quarter points en route to a PSAL 3A victory over the visiting Panthers on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HKACQREAWFHVNA2DD5J7HY2FE4\">In addition to Holland, Mekhi Hines (16 points), Andrew Lawrence (12 points) and Dyshawn Cartagena (10 points) also hit for double digits for PR, which won its first league game of the season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7IO7DXI3CRBFNLI5QAVYVGF57Y\">Daynell Rowland and Kareem Nesbitt paced the Panthers with 13 and 10 points, respectively.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"RI3YBZJP6REA3FNR3KUI7KY27Q\">The Raiders defense shined in the first half as they allowed just 12 points to the visitors, who upset then-first place Tottenville just last week.
