STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Junior Nick Rebracca scored a game-high 21 points, including a perfect 10-for-10 performance from the free-throw line, as St. Joseph by-the-Sea registered a 45-39 CHSAA A division victory over visiting Monsignor McClancy Tuesday in Huguenot.<\/p>\n
Rebracca, who is averaging 18.6 points per game, also had three three-pointers as the Vikings won their third straight and for the fourth time in five tries. Luca Mineo, Joey Moran and John Paturzo teamed for another 21 markers for Sea, which improved to 10-5 overall (8-4 CHSAA).<\/p>\n
Justin Williams paced McClancy (7-9 overall, 4-5 league) with 14 points.<\/p>\n
Thanks in part to six points apiece from Rebracca and Moran, the Vikings owned a 22-18 lead at halftime. <\/p>\n
Sea, however, turned up its defensive intensity a notch in the third period and limited the Crusaders to just five points. Rebracca, who scored 15 second-half points, had six in the third and Mineo buried a three as head coach Mike Cortese\u2019s team took a 33-23 advantage into the fourth.<\/p>\n
Although the Crusaders showed signs of life offensively in the final period, Rebracca continued his sharp free-throw shooting (6 for 6) and added a trey with the game on the line.<\/p>\n
McClancy cut Sea\u2019s lead to three with 1:15 left, but following a timeout, Rebracca set a crucial backscreen on an inbounds play and Mineo took a pass from Moran and hit a big layup to give the Vikings some much-needed breathing room down the stretch.<\/p>\n
Farrell 69, Xavier 53<\/p>\n
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Junior Ryan Hanley tossed in a career-high 22 points and the Lions turned in a big third quarter on both ends of the floor en route to the CHSAA A triumph over the visiting Knights in Oakwood.<\/p>\n
The 6-foot-6 Hanley, who is averaging 11.2 ppg in 13 contests overall, has tossed in 15.3 ppg in the Lions\u2019 last four games. The two-year varsity player surpassed his previous high of 15 points, which he had reached three times before.<\/p>\n
JJ Yates (15 points), Mike Abreu (10 points), Jack Gomez (nine points) and Matt Scalisi (nine points) also contributed offensively for Farrell, which improved to 7-7 overall (5-5 CHSAA).<\/p>\n
The Lions were exceptional from the charity stripe after connecting on 15 of 17 attempts behind Hanley (5 for 5), Yates (4 for 4) and Scalisi (4 for 4).<\/p>\n
Timothy Leahy (4 of 5 FTs, two treys), meanwhile, scored a team-high 16 points while Peter Franchock (three treys) and Aleksandar Kovacevic added 13 points apiece for the Knights (6-7 overall, 3-7 league).<\/p>\n
Hanley and Yates teamed for 18 first-half markers to give the Oakwood school a 30-28 advantage at the half. But head coach Danny Fisher\u2019s troops dug in defensively in allowing just nine third-quarter points while enjoying their most productive stanza offensively as well.<\/p>\n
Yates and Gomez led a balanced attack with five points apiece \u2014 including one trey each \u2014 and Farrell sank 6 of 7 freebies to take a commanding 50-37 lead into the fourth.<\/p>\n
Hanley then took over from there as he buried his lone three-pointer and added a conventional three-point play to finish with eight points overall as Farrell cruised to victory.<\/p>\n
Jefferson 79, Susan Wagner 67<\/p>\n
BROOKLYN, N.Y. \u2014 Adem Djonbalic led a balanced attack with 15 points and the Falcons carried a lead into the fourth quarter before the Orange Wave rallied to earn the PSAL 4A Brooklyn-Staten Island division victory.<\/p>\n
In addition to Djonbalic, who had three three-pointers, Wagner received offensive production from Clevi Hoxha (14 points, two treys), Charles Gambino (13 points) and Chris Albano (11 points). Head coach Danny Lanigan\u2019s troops dropped to 13-5 overall, including 6-3 in league play.<\/p>\n
Jefferson (6-2 PSAL) had five players land in double digits. Richard Jackson finished with a game-high 20 points on the strength of a 6-for-7 performance from the free-throw line. Shareef Smith (16 points), Paris Roots (13 points), Kendry Ortiz (11 points) and Kenneth Moore (10 points) also aided the Brooklyn school\u2019s attack.<\/p>\n
Wagner, meanwhile, gave the Orange Wave all they could handle as it owned leads at the end of the first quarter (16-15), halftime (37-30) and at the end of the third period (57-53). Gambino and Hoxha combined for 25 points through three quarters.<\/p>\n
The Falcons, who were led by Djonbalic (six points) in the final period, still led 63-61 in the waning minutes when Jefferson ended the game with an 18-4 run. Jackson and Ortiz had nine points apiece in the fourth.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe missed a great opportunity to win a game that we led for approximately 29 minutes,\u2019’ said Lanigan. \u201dThe fourth quarter was a back-and-forth, one possession game until just under the two-minute mark.<\/p>\n

Iona Prep 56, St. Peter\u2019s 49 (OT)<\/p>\n
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Senior Nico Parlanti tied for the game high with 14 points and the Eagles owned a double-digit, second-half lead. But the visiting Gaels stormed back to capture the CHSAA AA overtime decision in New Brighton.<\/p>\n
Junior Victor Baez tied his career high with 13 points, including three treys, while Aaron Vazquez and Tyler Schoenberg teamed for another 14 markers for St. Peter\u2019s (4-8 overall, 1-5 CHSAA). <\/p>\n
The Wolf brothers, senior Joe (two treys) and junior Tommy (5 for 5 FTs, two treys) led the Gaels with 14 and 13 points, respectively. The New Rochelle, N.Y., school improved to 9-6 overall, including 4-5 in league play.<\/p>\n
The Eagles trailed 14-13 after one period, but they held the Gaels to just five points in the second and rode Baez and Vazquez (four points apiece) to a 25-19 advantage at intermission.<\/p>\n
Baez then drained two threes and Schoenberg added four points in the third to help give the New Brighton school a 40-30 lead heading into the fourth.<\/p>\n
But the Gaels came to life during the final eight minutes of regulation, led by Joe Wolf, who scored eight points in the quarter, including a pair of treys. JT Lindi added four points as the visitors forged a 47-47 tie to send the game to overtime. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe boys got stops late in the fourth quarter, including the final play of regulation to force OT,\u2019’ said SP head coach Ryan Woods.<\/p>\n
Iona, however, outscored the Eagles 9-2 behind Tommy Wolf (four points) during the extra session to take home the win.<\/p>\n
McClancy 56, Moore 47<\/p>\n
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Eenej Vinson tossed in 14 points for the Mavericks, but the visiting Crusaders held leads at the end of the first three quarters before pulling away for the CHSAA A triumph Sunday in Graniteville.<\/p>\n
Nick DeGrado and Alexander Raphael added 10 and eight points, respectively, for Moore, which dropped to 2-7 in league play (3-9 overall).<\/p>\n
Andrew Fischer scored a game-high 22 points, including 4 of 5 free-throw attempts, for McClancy. Brayden Ojeda (14 points) and Williams (10 points) also aided the Queens school\u2019s offensive attack.<\/p>\n
The Crusaders owned a 41-37 lead entering the final eight minutes when Fischer scored his final six points to get the visitors to the finish line.
