Cheers and tears of joy filled the food court at Pittsburgh International Airport when Mineo’s Pizza House officially opened Thursday.What started out as one pizza shop in Squirrel Hill in 1958 has now expanded into several locations, with the airport as the newest.”We’re now here. We’re ready to sell all of these pizzas. As you all know, we have a UPS program at our Squirrel Hill location. We’ve been shipping pizzas since the 90s. Now this is a nice extension of that. As a flyer, you can grab a pie, take it on your flight,” said Giovanni Mineo III, named after his grandfather, who started Mineo’s.”I want to thank my mother and father, because without them, none of this would have been possible,” said Dominic Mineo, co-owner of Mineo’s. “It’s a special occasion. I know they’re up in heaven, looking down right now and smiling.”Mineo’s is sharing a concession space next to Marathon Diner, owned by the Janis family, with more than 30 years as airport concessionaires.Mineo’s joins Mi Casa Cantina and Bad Egg Breakfast Bar as the newest food options on airside.”When this new terminal opened, and we did this terminal redevelopment, we had a focus on sense of place — that when you landed here in Pittsburgh, you knew you were in someplace unique.
