NORTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. – A unique party took the spotlight at Shankweiler’s Drive-In Theatre Thursday night: a shovel party.
“We’re having an impromptu snow removal event here at the drive-in. There’s a lot of people excited to see ‘Iron Lung’ premiere here at the drive-in,” said Matthew McClanahan, owner of Shankweiler’s.
“Iron Lung” is a highly anticipated movie from the mind of Mark Fischbach, better known as Markiplier.
Fischbach is a longtime content creator with millions of followers online.
And lucky for Shankweiler’s, posts about the shovel party on social media caught the attention of the man himself.
“I found that out right before going to bed. I was checking on our video and then suddenly all of these comments: ‘Hi from Mark. Mark sent us,’” McClanahan said.
“I saw this on a post he put it on his story, so I called up my friends and they came along with me,” said Martin Nguyen, of North Whitehall Township.
While lots of people who showed up at Shankweiler’s are fans of the internet superstar…
“I grew up watching Markiplier,” said Alexis Dawkins of Allentown. “I’m 22 and I’ve been watching Markiplier since I was like in elementary school.”
Others turned out just because.
“My parents brought me here when I was a little kid, so help ’em out!” said Francis Gross Jr., another volunteer.
And after lots of shoveling, plowing, and snow blowing from this group of volunteers, the show will go on this weekend.
