ASHTABULA, Ohio (WOIO) – A huge ship became stuck on the ice in Lake Erie Thursday and a second ship got stuck during the rescue.
The M/V Sam Laud, a 635-foot carrier, was traveling from Cleveland to Ashtabula when it became trapped in the ice, which was 12 inches high in some spots.
A tug came from the Detroit River, but also got stuck.
The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Bristol Bay responded and freed both the tug and the carrier.
There were no injuries.
