The Eagles are hiring Sean Mannion as their new offensive coordinator. The quick-rising coach had a long NFL career as a quarterback and is now the Eagles’ OC at just 33 years old.

Here are five things to know about Mannion:

1. He spent the last two seasons with the Packers

Mannion served as the Packers’ quarterbacks coach last season after being an offensive assistant in Green Bay in 2024.

Under Mannion, Jordan Love threw for 3,381 yards, 23 touchdowns, and only six interceptions in 15 games. Packers backup Malik Willis completed over 85% of his passes for 422 yards and three interceptions in limited action with Love sidelined.

“I’m thrilled to have Sean Mannion on board as the new offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles,” Head Coach Nick Sirianni said in a statement. “My goal throughout this process was to operate with an open mind regarding the future of our offense to find the best fit for the Eagles.

“Over the last few weeks, I had an opportunity to meet with a number of talented candidates and great offensive minds. I am appreciative of the time I was able to spend with each of them. Some came with years of experience running an offense and calling plays. Others were young, sharp, and dynamic coaches on the rise. I felt it was important to be patient and thorough to allow the right fit to reveal himself to us. Sean did just that.”

2. The former QB has had a quick coaching rise

Mannion was playing in the NFL during the 2023 season, when he spent time on the Vikings’ and Seahawks’ practice squads.

When his playing career ended, the Packers were quick to swipe him up, and after one season he became the team’s quarterbacks coach. His rise has been speedy, but it isn’t surprising to those who have been around him.

“He’s got a bright future in this profession,” Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur said, via A to Z Sports. “He attacks it the same way I knew he would when he was a player. Just extreme ownership of everything, puts in the time and goes above and beyond the call of duty, which is exactly what you want from your assistant coaches.”

In addition to coaching under LaFleur, Mannion has played for and coached with some of the brightest minds in football. That list includes people like the Los Angeles Rams’ Sean McVay, Jaguars’ Liam Coen, Vikings’ Kevin O’Connell, Falcons’ Kevin Stefanski, Bengals’ Zac Taylor, and others.

Mannion has a heavy influence from the Mike Shanahan/Kyle Shanahan coaching tree.
