Nearly 50 years after it opened, a Lehigh Valley hot dog shop will soon rebrand with new menu items and a new tropical feel.
Potts’ Nazareth, 207 S. Broad St., will celebrate its rebranding to Paradise Dogs starting at 10 a.m. March 2, according to the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Owner Courtney Beahn said the rebranding will include new menu items like the “Island Dog” with bacon, barbecue sauce and homemade pineapple relish, and the “Paradise Dog” with homemade mango mustard, chili cheese and pickled onions. Other shop changes include a new logo, new signage and some wallpaper themed after the bird of paradise plant.
“A lot of the customers know me because I’m here every single day,” she said. “I am the person that you’ll see when you walk through the door, and they know my vibe, and I am a bubbly personality that loves colors and beaches and tropical vibes. So my goal, since it’s officially my fifth year owning this, I wanted to make it more me. I wanted to make it my personality, and grow my business.”
The Potts’ brand dates back to 1971, when William Potts opened the original shop in Bethlehem. After working during high school at the Bethlehem location, Potts’ cousin and Courtney’s father, Warren Beahn, took on the Nazareth location, which Potts opened in 1978.
Courtney, who previously worked as a nurse, took over the Nazareth shop from her father nearly five years ago and operates independently from the other Potts’ shops.
“When my dad decided to retire, he goes, ‘Are you going to take it over or am I selling?’ ” Courtney recalled. “I said, ‘I’m going to take it over,’ because I wanted to keep it in the family.”
The shop offers other hot dog varieties as well as hot dog bowls and milkshakes. Courtney plans to eventually open a Paradise Dogs food truck that will include a fryer for fries.
She also hopes to eventually open a spot somewhere on the shore, perhaps even on an island like Aruba.
“So our new tagline is actually going to be ‘One Happy Bite,’ and Aruba’s tagline is ‘One Happy Island,’ ” Courtney said. “So we’re going off those vibes.”
Courtney’s Nazareth shop is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. It will close Feb. 16 and reopen March 2.
Why is that?
“We’re actually going to Aruba, and I’m taking merchandise to take pictures on the beach and stuff like that,” Courtney said. “So it should be a lot of fun.”
