The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins started off its short week on a strong note.

Hitting the ice for the first time in a week, the Pens scored three straight goals to pick up the 4-1 win over the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday night at Mohegan Arena.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton evens the season series, 1-1, with the Crunch, and remains in firm control of second place in the Atlantic Division, three points behind Providence. Charlotte and Hershey round out the top four.

It was two goals in a two-minute span that got the locals off to a good start. Eleven was the lucky number as Avery Hayes’ 11th goal, and Rafael Harvey-Pinard’s 11th score gave the Penguins a 2-0 advantage not even 10 minutes into the contest.

There was only one goal in the second, and it came off the stick of Matt Dumba as his second goal of the year gave the Pens a 3-0 lead at the second intermission.

Conor Geekie’s power-play goal cut the WBS lead to 3-1 before Gabe Klassen’s shorthanded goal set the final score.

Sergei Murashov got the start in goal, stopping 26 of 27 shots he faced.

The Penguins close out the week with a short trip to the PPL Center on Sunday afternoon to face off with Lehigh Valley. Next week, they host Hershey on Wednesday, head back to Allentown on Friday to face Lehigh Valley and stop at the Giant Center on Saturday for another game with the Bears.
