Edith ‘Toots’ Hardy Mullaney
OBITUARY
Edith “Toots” Hardy Mullaney, 100, of Moscow passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday January 25, 2026 with her loving daughters by her side.
Born September 5, 1925 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Sarah (Knott) Hardy. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph W. Mullaney Sr. in 2009. The couple celebrated their 65th anniversary in 2008.
In her early years, she was employed by Frank Cooper Rug Mfg. Co. in Scranton. After her marriage her main focus was her family. She and her husband started their family in Scranton, before moving to East Orange, NJ. They moved to Moscow in 1978.
Edith was a kind and very loving mother who was known as the matriarch of her family, but many others considered her a second mother. Her nieces and nephews enjoyed visiting her home, and spending time during holidays. Her children’s friends were always welcome, and the house was never quiet.
She hosted Thanksgiving dinners that included as many as 30 family members and guests. Some of her favorite dishes were spaghetti sauce and sauce bread, potato pancakes, bundt cakes, and rice pudding.
Edith enjoyed the simple pleasures of life including puzzles, bingo, crocheting, and card games with her children and grandchildren, especially playing Old Maid with her great-grandchildren, and Aggravation with her family. She loved her grand dogs, who could always be found on her lap or by her feet.
In her earlier years she enjoyed soap operas and later looked forward to watching Blue Bloods, NCIS, and Law & Order series.
Surviving are her six children daughters Maureen Kelly (Brian) of Clifton Twp., and Sharon of Lake Ariel; sons David of Jefferson Twp. Robert (Josefina Lavia) of New Milford, Joseph Jr. (Joanne Griffo) of Newton, NJ, and Jerome (Nellie) of Bradenton, FL.; her fifteen grandchildren: Sean Mullaney, Shannon Radley, Colleen Hillard, JJ Mullaney, Melissa Ferris, Kathy Sic, Buddy Mullaney, Alexandra Moherek, Kelly Mullaney, Christina Mullaney, Lindsay McCarthy, Eric Kelly, Amy Kelly, and Fallyn Mundrake; (17) great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Others who were very special in her life were Barbara Lockwood, her son-In-law Brian Kelly; and her Godsons James Sheerer and Michael Hubinger. She was also blessed to have kind and loving neighbors who looked out for Edith.
She was preceded in death by her son Daniel, and newborn daughter Kathleen; her sisters Margaret Medici and Ruth Ferrise; and her brothers William, Harry, Rowland, and Joseph.
Edith touched many lives in her 100 years, and was blessed to celebrate her 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends.
