A man charged in a 2024 shootout that injured six people near the Allentown Dominican Festival faces up to 20 years in prison after a jury found him guilty on multiple counts.

Yunior Peralta-Quintana, 23, of Allentown was convicted Friday in Lehigh County Court after a four-day trial. He was found guilty of attempted murder, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, carrying a firearm without a license and witness intimidation stemming from the shooting. His sentencing is scheduled for March 5.

Miguel Ovalles Ubri, 29, of Allentow, is also charged in the case and is awaiting trial.

A gunfight between Peralta-Quintana and Ovalles Ubri drew a police response to the 100 block of North Seventh Street, near Allentown’s Dominican Festival that was taking place at the time, around 6:45 p.m. Aug. 25, 2024.

“The investigation revealed an extremely chaotic crime scene that occurred that included surveillance and officer body-worn cameras that showed crowds of people enjoying the festival, including children and young adults,” Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan said. “They were sent scrambling for cover after a barrage of gunshots were fired at each other by both Peralta-Quintana and Ovalles Ubri.”

Multiple Allentown police officers responded to the scene. The shooting was still in progress, and two officers fired during the incident, but none of the people wounded in the shootout were shot by officers, authorities said. Holihan later determined that the officers who fired their weapons acted appropriately.

No officers were hurt.

First responders had to apply tourniquets to treat the people who were shot, Holihan said. One person needed life-saving surgery, authorities said at the time.

In total, 20 gunshots were fired by Peralta-Quintana and Ovalles Ubri, and 12 by Allentown police, authorities said.
