High water demand is limiting the Lehigh County Authority’s ability to restore reservoir levels in the Allentown area, and customers are being asked to immediately take steps to conserve water.

LCA crews are working to find and repair leaks. The authority asked customers to report suspected leaks to 610-437-7515 or service@lehighcountyauthority.org.

“Even small actions by individual customers make a meaningful difference when demand is elevated,” Liesel Gross, LCA’s chief executive officer said Sunday in a news release. “Our crews are working around the clock, but we need the public’s help to protect system reliability for everyone.”

LCA serves approximately 270,000 people. Here are conservation steps its customers can take:

Reduce nonessential uses such as laundry, car washing and outdoor water use.
Avoid running water to prevent pipes from freezing. Instead, use heat tape or heat the area where pipes are exposed.
Check for leaks, including running toilets, dripping faucets and malfunctioning appliances.
Owners of multiple properties should check all locations for burst pipes and immediately call for a water shutoff if necessary.
Look for signs of underground leaks such as water visible in the street or on the ground.
