EXETER TWP., Pa. – Just before midnight on Saturday, Exeter Township Police responded to the area of the 1300 block of Claire Drive for a report of a possible gas leak, authorities say.

Upon arrival, officers coordinated with UGI Utilities, who confirmed an active gas leak in the area, according to a press release from the police department.

Police say as a precaution, Exeter Township Police, along with members of the Exeter Township Volunteer Fire Department, conducted door-to-door notifications and evacuated residents from homes along Claire Drive and Budd Street.

Township Emergency Management Coordinators established a temporary shelter for displaced residents at the Dunn Center in Exeter Township while UGI worked to address the leak and secure the area, according to officials.

The release says shortly after 3 a.m., UGI determined the area was safe. Power was restored to the affected area, and residents were able to return to their homes.

Authorities say UGI will be providing space heaters to residents who remain without gas service as repairs continue.

No injuries were reported, according to the release.
