BETHLEHEM, Pa. – ArtsQuest hosted a Souper Bowl of its own this weekend. About 20 restaurants joined in on the event, which returned for its 16th year.
“It’s just a really fun day. We have about 20 soups this year,” said Alexis Kuczek, ArtsQuest programming coordinator.
Kuczek said each soup comes with its own unique taste.
“Everybody votes. We have a panel of judges who do like our official judging and then we have the people’s choice award,” said Kuczek.
“Last year we actually took the championship with a dessert soup, which is a cold soup,” said Amoya Walford, with Palette and Pour.
Walford is looking for a championship repeat. She is serving an andouille sausage soup and coconut corn chowder.
“We like to think back to what we made previous years. What people have liked, what they’ve gravitated towards and a little bit of what we’ve all made or had throughout the year,” said Walford.
Nearby, William Rufe with Northampton Community College is serving soup here for the fourth year.
“Today, we’re serving a Turkish parsnip soup, which is completely vegan. We’re garnering that with some pickled shallot, some pita crunches, some fresh herbs as well,” said Rufe.
“What’s it like to be a part of this year after year?” asked 69 News reporter Jack Reinhard.
“We really love showcasing our students’ creativity and being a part of the community,” said Rufe.
It is soup creativity for all to enjoy.
“It’s just a super fun day. Everybody comes in. This is a perfect day for soup,” said Kuczek.
