A gunman who opened fire in a shootout that injured eight people near an Allentown Dominican festival in 2024 has been convicted of attempted murder.

Aside from the felony attempted murder charge, Yunior Peralta-Quintana, 23, with addresses in Allentown and Bethlehem, was found guilty of three counts felony aggravated assault, one count felony reckless endangerment; and one count misdemeanor felony firearms not to be carried without a license, as well as other misdemeanor offenses.

Peralta-Quintana was acquitted of two felony aggravated assault charges. Those charges stem from the Aug. 25, 2024 shooting.

On May 7, 3025, Peralta-Quintana was additionally charged with two counts felony intimidation of a witness; three counts felony criminal solicitation to intimidate a witness; and one count felony retaliation against a witness charges.

Peralta-Quintana was also found guilty Friday of those charges.

Co-defendant Miguel Ovalles Ubri, 28, of Allentown is charged with felony attempted murder, two counts felony aggravated assault, one count misdemeanor simple assault and three counts misdemeanor reckless endangerment. He is awaiting trial on the charges.

Peralta-Quintana’s conviction came down after a four-day jury trial last week before Lehigh County Court of Common Pleas Judge Anna-Kristie M. Marks. He remains incarcerated at the Lehigh County Jail with bail denied.

Peralta-Quintana is scheduled for a sentencing hearing on March 5 before Marks. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in state prison.

Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan announced the verdict Friday afternoon. Allentown-based attorney Benjamin Cooper, representing Peralta-Quintana, couldn’t immediately be reached for comment Monday morning.

City police around 6:45 p.m. Aug. 25, 2024 were already near the parking lot, immediately west of the 100 block of North Seventh Street and about a half block away from the PPL Center at Hamilton Street.

Four officers involved were working a special operation assigned to the area of the North Lot for a portion of the nearby Dominican Festival, the DA’s Office had said.

A barrage of gunshots was fired as crowds, including children and young adults, enjoyed the festivities. They were sent scrambling for cover as Peralta-Quintana and Ovalles Ubri exchanged fire at each other, city police said.

Responding officers found the co-defendants actively shooting at each other in the North Lot and two officers opened gunfire, Holihan had said. None of the wounded victims were shot by those officers, he said.

No officers were injured in the incident. A total of six people suffered gunshot wounds and two others had other injuries. At least one victim required emergency life-saving surgery, the DA’s Office said.

All the victims survived their injuries, the DA’s Office said.

Video captured on an officer’s body-worn camera depicted the chaotic scene. The DA’s Office later ruled after a nearly month-long investigation the officers’ gunfire was justified in the incident to protect the safety of the public.

“The addition of extra officers patrolling the festival and nearby areas and their quick response and life-saving measures of treating victims with tourniquets most certainly saved lives that day,” Holihan said Friday.

The case is being investigated by Allentown Police Detective Theodore Kiskeravage and the Lehigh County Homicide Task Force. It’s being prosecuted by Lehigh COunty Senior Deputy District Attorney Patricia Turzyn and Lehigh County Assistant District Attorney Kinda Alhanna.
