N. CATASAUQUA, Pa. – More than a week after the big snowstorm, the deadline to dig out is finally here.
Police in North Catasauqua, Northampton County are starting to ticket people if their cars are still on the road, buried under snow.
Normally, the rule is you have to get your car dug out in three days. This time police gave people a whole week, but in a Facebook post, police warned people they would start ticketing after noon on Monday, and sure enough, they were good to their word, putting tickets for $25 on windshields, or where it’s less snowy in the door.
“I totally get it. It just, it’s unfortunate for some of us who are not in the area when this happened,” said Arelis Harsh.
Harsh told 69 News she got her car dug out, but she was worried about the people renting from her.
“That’s my tenant, and he’s out of town, so I’m going to try and help him out,” said Harsh.
Harsh said that’s a tough situation to work around.
“Some of us have more than one vehicle. We take one with us, and we’re not thinking oh my gosh we’re going to get snowed-in and stuck and get ticketed. Not everybody has the ability to have someone behind to say hey, can you go dig out my car?” said Harsh.
But police were understanding. For the owners they could get in touch with, they even helped dig out some cars. Officers told us tickets are a last resort, but even so, Harsh said she’s going to make sure her tenant doesn’t get one.
“I’ll just shovel it out for him. I don’t need him to get a ticket for some nonsense,” said Harsh.
And tickets are just the first step. If cars keep sitting there, they could end up getting towed.
