Gas leak prompts at least 30 evacuations in Reading | Reading Area

READING, Pa. — Emergency responders were on the scene of a gas leak in Reading on Monday night.

UGI crews are working on an active gas leak in the 100 block of W. Douglass Street, according to a UGI spokesperson.

Thirty homes were evacuated, UGI said.

A warming shelter was set up for those temporarily displaced.

Officials also cut electricity in the area as crews worked. More than 800 customers were without power in the area, according to MetEd.
