OBITUARY

Gilbert Hart Hill, Jr., 88, of Moosic, died Friday in Allied Services Hospice Center, Scranton. His beloved wife, with whom he celebrated 65 years of marriage on June 6, is Crena Elizabeth Hill.

Born in Pittston to the late Gilbert Sr. and Mary Robbie Hill, he was a graduate of St. John the Baptist Elementary and Pittston High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a draftsman stationed in France. Gilbert briefly worked with the Army Corps of Engineers as a civilian and was employed as a civil engineer in the construction industry throughout his life. He was co-owner of Pennsylvania Testing Labs in the 1970s, primarily working as an inspector and in soils testing. In 1980, he purchased and became the owner of Fennhaven Motel and Cabins in West Yellowstone, Montana. Upon returning to PA, he continued working in the engineering/construction industry until his retirement. He worked on the Nesbitt Water Treatment Plant and Ceasetown Dam projects.

Gilbert was a man of quick wit and enjoyed genealogy and researching family trees. He was a true Yankee fan and, in the past, assisted in coaching his grandson’s baseball team. A lifeguard in his youth at the YMCA, he also enjoyed gymnastics. He dabbled in preparing soups and salads and frequently read the Bible.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his four children, Deborah Crena Hill Zimmerman of Mountain Top, Mary Cynthia Collins (boyfriend Svetoslav) of Scranton, Judith Rose Durk (husband Stephen) of Edwardsville, and Gilbert Hart Hill III of Pittston Twp.; grandchildren, Dennis Zimmerman Jr. (wife Marilee), Kevin Zimmerman (wife Kara), Stephanie Pierantoni (husband Fred), Taylor Durk, Jeffrey Collins Jr. (wife Laura), Ivaylo Pavlov (wife Iva); great-grandchildren, Tateum Victoria Zimmerman, Ryan Zimmerman, Ava Marie Zimmerman, Noah Boneforte (fianc Aubrie), Liam Scott Zimmerman, Kaitlyn Heckman, Ralista Pavlov, Stanislav Pavlov; great-great-grandchildren, Ayden, Alayna, and Alia; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Scott Zimmerman; and sisters, Elizabeth Bethy Delinski and Mary Alice Wilk.

The funeral will be Friday, Feb. 6, 2026 with a Catholic Blessing Service by Rev. Paul McDonnell, O.S.J. at 11:00 AM in Ferri & Gillette Funeral Services, LLC, 522 Fallon St., Old Forge. Interment with military honors, thereafter, in Mountain View Cemetery, Harding.
