Move over, pancakes and bagels — this weekend, breakfast will get a frosty makeover as ice cream lovers everywhere celebrate the whimsical holiday known as Ice Cream for Breakfast Day on Feb. 7.
The holiday began as an informal tradition in the 1960s by Florence Rappaport, a mother of six in Rochester, New York. The indulgent day has grown over the years on a global level, so much so that the Jerusalem Post reported in 2020 that 100,000 people in Israel were expected to mark the sweet celebration.
In 2026, the City of Brotherly Love will have their own ways to take a bite out of the occasion.
Local brand Milk Jawn, for one, is celebrating the spirit with its fourth consecutive Ice Cream for Breakfast Day featuring breakfast-flavored flights at both its locations: East Passyunk (1439 East Passyunk Ave.) and Northern Liberties (946 N. 2nd St.)
The flights, which cost $12.50 each, include four brand-new scoops inspired by popular cereals. Flavors span their Caramel Corn Pops (Corn Pops flavored ice cream with salty and sweet caramelized Corn Pops mixed in); Cookie Crisp Sundae (sweet cream ice cream with malted fudge and toasted Cookie Crisp cereal); Cinnamon French Toast Crunch (cinnamon ice cream swirled with a mixed berry compote and French Toast Crunch cereal); and Magic Marshmallows (Lucky Charms cereal ice cream with Lucky Charms marshmallows).
Each scoop comes with a crispy waffle cone chip, and the flights will be served until they’re gone. Vegans can also join in on the fun with Milk Jawn’s Vegan Chocolate Peanut Butter Cap’n Crunch—a decadent treat featuring vegan chocolate ice cream swirled with peanut butter stracciatella topped with Cap’n Crunch Peanut Butter Crunch cereal. The specials will start being served at 9 a.m.
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams is also joining in on the fun. Scoop shops across the city (at 1901 Chestnut St. and 1322 Frankford Ave.) will open early at 9 a.m., on Feb. 7 to serve up special breakfast-inspired treats, including the debut of a reimagined House Coffee flavor made with direct trade beans from Verve Coffee Roasters. Fans can also enjoy the return of Jeni’s Maple Soaked Pancakes flavor, a nostalgic favorite crafted with real Vermont maple syrup and salted buttercream, available for a limited time.
While there, shoppers can explore a curated menu of breakfast-themed pairings, along with in-shop surprises like kids’ activity sheets, stickers, and festive extras. Guests can additionally enter to win free ice cream and coffee for a year by signing up for the Jeni’s app and scanning it in-store during the celebration.
