ALLENTOWN, Pa.- The historic Americus Hotel is announcing a new partnership as it prepares to mark a milestone birthday.

The hotel at 6th and Hamilton Streets in downtown Allentown is now part of Hyatt’s Unscripted brand.

The Americus, which reopened in 2021 after a lengthy restoration project, was previously part of the Trademark Collection by Wyndham.

“We have our own unique identity here, and we felt as if the Hyatt brand better correlates with us than our previous company,” said Ryan Abdouche, who worked alongside his father, Albert Abdouche, to restore the property.

Albert Abdouche bought the building in 2009. At that point, the hotel had been closed for seven years and was in a dilapidated state.

Several years and several millions of dollars in renovations later, the Americus has been restored to its 1920s-era glamour. “The hotel is a grand hotel,” Ryan Abdouche said. “We have two ballrooms, one on the 11th floor and our grand ballroom in the lobby. We have also breakout space, meeting space. We have 135 rooms. It is definitely a premier hotel here in Allentown.”

The Americus is part of Historic Hotels of America and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Construction began at the site in 1926. The hotel opened its doors the following year, which means its centennial is right around the corner. “The 100th anniversary will be September 13, 2027,” Ryan Abdouche said.

The hotel plans to mark the occasion with a special celebration. Details will be announced at a later date.

Launched in 2025, Unscripted is one of Hyatt’s newest brands; it features independent, boutique hotels.

According to Hyatt’s website, the Americus is just one of three hotels in the U.S. in the Unscripted portfolio. The Forester Hotel in Illinois and the Latitude Suites Tinton Falls in New Jersey are the other two.
