PAINESVILLE, Ohio — A new opportunity is coming soon for high school students in Northeast Ohio who want a head start on college credits — without leaving campus.

Auburn Career Center and Lake Erie College are teaming up to launch Lake Erie College at Auburn, an on-campus College Credit Plus partnership set to begin in the 2026–2027 school year.

The program will give students the chance to earn transferable college coursework while continuing their hands-on career and technical education at Auburn.

The goal is to let students have the best of both worlds.

Instead of choosing between college prep and career readiness, students can now enroll in college classes right where they’re already learning career skills.

Starting this fall, Lake Erie College at Auburn will be housed in the newly renovated Auburn Workforce and Innovation Center. The former auditorium is being transformed into a professional learning space with three dedicated classrooms designed for college-level instruction.

Renovations are planned for summer so the space will be ready when classes begin.

Students will have flexibility in how they participate. They may enroll in a single college course or take a fuller college schedule. Courses will be offered in 50-minute blocks twice per day.

During its first year, the program will offer a slate of foundational college courses that meet Ohio’s College Credit Plus requirements. Planned offerings include College Writing I and II, Pre-Calculus I and II, Public Speaking and General Psychology.

Families interested in learning more about the program are encouraged to contact school counselors or visit Auburn Career Center’s website.
