The Lehigh County Office of Solid Waste Management is gearing up for its 2025 Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Event.

The event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Coca-Cola Park at 1050 Ironpigs Way in Allentown. Residents must use the American Parkway entrance to access the site.

Participation in the event is limited to residents, and no commercial waste from commercial entities will be accepted. Materials are limited to no more than 200 pounds per vehicle, and 55-gallon drums are prohibited.

A strict set of instructions for the drive-thru event requires participants to place all disposal materials in the trunk of a car, the rear of an SUV or a pickup truck. Residents must remain inside their vehicles at all times, keeping windows rolled up until told otherwise by an employee, officials said.

When at the front of the line, only the driver may roll down the driver’s side window to provide their name and address for confirmation. After confirmation, the driver must remotely pop open the trunk or rear of the vehicle for the hazardous waste contractor to empty the materials. The contractor will close the vehicle, and the driver will be motioned out of a marked exit.

Acceptable items include acid, antifreeze, automotive paints and finishes, button batteries, drain cleaner, driveway sealant, flammable liquids, fluorescent bulbs, fungicide, herbicide, lithium and NiCad batteries, motor oil, oil-based paint, pesticides, pool chemicals, solvents, stains, transmission oil, turpentine, varnishes, weed killer and wood preservatives. Gasoline is accepted with a five-gallon limit.

Items that will not be accepted include asphalt, concrete, electronic waste, explosives, ammunition, gas cylinders, infectious or medical waste, joint or caulking compound, latex paint, organic peroxides, prescription drugs, radioactive waste and water-based sealants.
