A fatal crash in Syracuse is now being investigated by New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office.
It started around 2:30 Tuesday morning on Avery Avenue. The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were attempting to stop a stolen van that was fleeing. While turning onto Erie Boulevard, deputies say the driver of the van lost control and hit a telephone pole.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman that was in the car was ejected. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The crash also knocked out power to nearby buildings, like the Onondaga Board of Elections.
As is standard practice, the investigation has been turned over to the state attorney general’s office.
