ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Allentown City Council voted Wednesday to adopt a resolution to approve the dedication and naming of the plaza in front of the new Da Vinci Science Center at PPL Pavilion after Pennsylvania Secretary of Revenue Pat Browne and his wife Heather.
Secretary Browne also served as a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and later as a Pennsylvania senator.
Council said the naming is in recognition of the Browne’s dedication to enhancing educational opportunities for Allentown students and the families.
The resolution states: “Secretary Pat Browne and his wife Heather have made significant contributions to education for young people and to the city of Allentown in general; Secretary Browne worked in governmental space where an elected official actually led and governed, shaping Allentown and the Lehigh Valley in a way that will be hard to match.”
The Browne family also supported the construction of the new Da Vinci Science Center.
Driving safety
In other business, council voted to adopt a resolution to support Pennsylvania Senate Bill 37, which would prohibit the use of handheld interactive wireless communication devices while operating a motor vehicle on state roadways.
Councilmember Santo Napoli praised state elected officials who are pushing the bill forward.
“Traffic safety continues to be an issue in our city, and this is something that hopefully will help with reducing some of these tragedies that occur in our streets on a regular basis,” Napoli said.
