BENSALEM, Pa. – At approximately 12 a.m. on Tuesday, Bensalem Township Police responded to Street Road at the Interstate 95 interchange for a report of a three-vehicle crash involving a car fire and people trapped inside.
According to a press release from the police department, officers located a silver 2013 Chevrolet Sonic fully engulfed in flames upon arrival. Police say the driver had been ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two additional people in the Chevrolet were removed from the burning car and transported by Bensalem EMS to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where they are in critical condition, according to authorities.
Emergency responders say the drivers of a 2017 Dodge Journey and a 2015 Honda Accord, which were also involved in the crash, were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
Members of the Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the car fire.
Authorities say investigation indicates that the Chevrolet Sonic was traveling eastbound on Street Road at a high speed as it approached the I-95 interchange. The car failed to stop for a red light at the northbound I-95 ramp intersection and struck a Dodge Journey that was exiting I-95 northbound and making a left turn onto westbound Street Road on a green light.
As a result of the impact, the Chevrolet went airborne, crossed the center median, and struck a Honda Accord that was stopped in the left lane of westbound Street Road. The Chevrolet stopped in the roadway and subsequently caught fire, the release says.
Officers say the entire incident was captured on Bensalem Township Police intersection cameras.
The deceased driver of the Chevrolet has been identified as Timur Khabelov, 44, of Brooklyn, New York. The passengers in the Chevrolet were identified as Farruh Homidov, 43, and Askar Narziev, 39; both remain in critical condition, officers say.
Officials say this crash is under investigation. The involvement of drugs or alcohol has not been ruled out and is pending autopsy and toxicology results, according to the release.
