Catasauqua police on Tuesday apprehended a student at Innovative Arts Academy who they say was carrying a firearm on school grounds, according to media reports.

Police said in a news release that they were called to Innovative Arts Academy on Howertown Road around 1 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a pupil with a gun, according to the reports.

School officials secured the weapon prior to police arriving, with officers taking possession of the firearm, police said. Information about the student was not released, nor did police say if the school was placed on lockdown, according to reports.

Police said they would send The Morning Call a copy of the news release about the incident that was provided to other local media outlets, but it has not yet been received.

A call to the school after hours Tuesday was not returned.
