Several athletes from Lackawanna Track Conference schools had successful weekends as the indoor season continues.
Mid Valley freshman Olivia Thomas placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 35 feet, 11.75 inches at the 11th annual Ocean Breeze Invitational. Wyoming Area’s Taylor Gashi won the event with a distance of 36-0.
In addition, Thomas was fifth in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.34 seconds. Dallas’ Julia Natitus finished second in the 55 hurdles in 8.06.
Others had top 8 finishes at various meets.
Abington Heights had a big medal haul on Tuesday night at The Varsity Classic at The Armory in New York. Anna Pucilowski finished second in the 1,600 (5:12.94), Julia Healey was fifth in the 3,200 (13:06.72), Aliya Lucarelli finished fifth in the long jump (16-9.75), and the 1,600 relay team of Pucilowski, Lucarelli, Allison Rothenberger, and Addisyn Mummert was fifth (4:29.24) in the girls’ meet. Anthony Piccotti was third in the pole vault (12-0) in the boys’ meet.
Delaware Valley’s Emma Simmons finished third in the 60 hurdles (9.66) and ran a personal-best 9.62 in the preliminary heats. She also finished seventh in the 60 (8.32) and added a personal-best time (8.25) in the preliminaries at the Bison High School Invitational at Bucknell University.
Also at the Bison Invitational, Western Wayne’s Robert Carrelle finished fourth in the pole vault. He equaled his personal best height by clearing14-0. He also had a seventh-place finish in the 60 hurdles in 9.29.
Western Wayne’s Olivia Haines finished seventh in the triple jump (31-9), eighth in the long jump (15-5), and added a ninth in the 60 (8.43).
Holy Cross’ Brandon Fadl was fifth in the shot put with a mark of 49-1, and Western Wayne’s Sadie Booths was second in the weight throw (33-11) and fourth in the shot put (32-3).
Western Wayne’s Vinny Baldini finished second in weight throw (42-4), and teammate Aiden Albert was third (35-5).
Wallenpaupack’s June Brown was fifth with a personal-best 2:28.72 in the 800, and teammate David Mrowka placed eighth in the 400 (54.39).
Elsewhere, Mid Valley’s Jacob Borelli finished fourth in the 3,000-meter run at the Penn Relays Winter Showcase at the Jane and David Ott Center in Philadelphia. He ran a time of 8 minutes, 65.88 seconds.
Ocean Breeze Invitational
Lakeland sophomore Bria Hill finished 10th in the 400 with a personal-best time of 59.50. She also raced in the 200 and finished 33rd with a time of 26.37. Both efforts rank first among athletes from LTC schools this season, according to pa.milesplit.com.
North Pocono’s Alia Rava finished 25th in the 55 (7.95), 31st in the 400 (1:11.42), and 40th in the 200 (29.01).
Among athletes from Wyoming Valley Conference schools, Lake-Lehman’s Bodhi Cronin won the 800 in 2:01.47. Finn Cronin finished 11th in the 800 with a time of 2:06.12.
Holy Redeemer’s Caden Morecl was 12th in the One Mile Run (4:56.36).
Bison High School Invitational
Holy Cross’ Liza Froncek finished 13th in the high jump (4-4).
Western Wayne’s Kaitlyn Kloss finished ninth in the 3,200 with a time of 12:15.37;
Juleighanna Eldred was ninth in the pole vault (9-0); Abbie Washine was 10th (9-0), and Olivia Moyer 13th (8-0).
Western Wayne’s Aiden Matthews finished 13th in the pole vault (11-0), and Alex DeCandis was 14th (10-6).
Members of Wilkes-Barre Area had an outstanding meet at the Bison Invitational.
Kevon Creech won the 60 (7.01) and the 200 (22.38). Da’von Underwood won the long jump with a mark of 22-8. Underwood has the fourth-best long jump (23-0) of the season from the Golden Bear High School Invitational on Jan. 9. Jazaiah McCoy was second in the 400 (53.21) for the Wolfpack.
For the Wilkes-Barre Area girls team, Jaida Underwood finished fourth in high jump (5-2) and sixth in long jump (15-11). Alexa Prushinski was 10th in the One Mile (5:50.62), Hadassa Colindres was 12th in the 60 hurdles (11.38), and Anna McDougal was 13th (11.80) in the 60 hurdles.
PTFCA Carnival
This season’s 35th annual PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival at Lehigh University is Saturday.
Several teams from District 2 are expected to participate.
The top 18 entrants in many of the track events and all of the field events will be accepted. There will be a limit of 15 entrants in some distance races.
Medals are awarded to the top five finishers in each event.
