DICKSON CITY, Pa. – A fire engulfed part of a Lackawanna County hospital Wednesday night.
It happened at the orthopedic institute at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Dickson City on Main Street in Dickson City Borough.
The Dickson City Fire Department said in a social media post that it was dispatched around 9:40 p.m. for a fire on the roof of the hospital.
Crews found the fire was in the roof of the original section of the building, previously known as Scranton Orthopedics, which is currently an LVPG orthopedic outpatient facility. That building is attached to the newly constructed Lehigh Valley Hospital building.
The fire department said the blaze was in the orthopedic facility and did not make it into the main hospital building, but there is smoke and water damage to the hospital.
No one was injured from the fire, but 77 people were evacuated and treated in a triage area, the county’s emergency management agency said.
All of the 77 patients have been transported to other hospitals.
The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Unit will be investigating the origin and cause of the fire.
