Feb. 6 has recently officially proclaimed as National Wear Red Day. This proclamation comes from the County of Erie in collaboration with the Erie Department of Health and the American Heart Association.
A national campaign to raise awareness about heart disease, its impact on the community, and the importance of prevention and early detection inspired the National Wear Red Day initiative.
For women, cardiovascular disease has been the number one killer in the United States. The American Heart Association has encouraged individuals to wear red to raise awareness and show support.
County Executive Christina Vogel will deliver a proclamation that will officially declare Wear Red Day in Erie County. This proclamation will be on Feb. 6 at 8:30 a.m. in the Erie County Department of Health located at 606 2nd Street.
The Erie County Department of Health has installed a blood pressure self-monitoring station in its lobby for the community to improve its health and have access to blood pressure monitoring. During business hours, members of the community will have access to the monitoring system. More information about heart health how to monitor blood pressure, and when they might need extra care will be provided.
Those who do not have access to a physician can find lists of local health providers. The Erie County Department of Health will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
