WEST READING, Pa. – Reading Hospital is looking for volunteers to offer support and comfort to patients in their final moments.
The No One Dies Alone (NODA) program connects volunteers with Reading Hospital patients who are nearing the end of life.
Volunteers receive comprehensive training and are asked only to offer their time and presence by sitting quietly with patients, reading to them, or simply giving them a hand to hold.
“No one should have to spend their last moments without someone by their side,” said Tina Figueroa, manager of volunteer services and spiritual care.
“The work our volunteers do is deeply meaningful. Employees and community members give their time to provide comfort during someone’s most vulnerable moments – and I think that speaks volumes about the type of care we offer here. I’m very glad we could bring the program back,” she added.
No One Dies Alone at Reading Hospital has a need for daytime volunteers between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.
All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and present a Pennsylvania Criminal History Background Check. No medical or nursing skills are necessary.
Those interested in volunteering can contact Tina Figueroa at Tina.Figueroa@towerhealth.org or 484-628-8217.
