A Northampton County man left his dog outdoors for almost an hour in single-digit temperatures last month, according to police.
Nazareth police were called about 11:20 p.m. Jan. 23 to the 100 block of West High Street for a report that a dog had been left outside for about an hour in cold temperatures, according to a department news release. Police said the temperature at the time was8 degrees, with wind chill values below zero.
The dog did not have shelter from the cold, nor did the dog have food or water, court documents state. Officers were able to get the dog into the home, the release states. Police said there had been several previous calls to the home about the dog being left outside for extended periods of time.
Officers had been to the home about a month earlier and gave the owner a warning for leaving the dog out in those conditions, court documents state.
The 51-year-old owner is charged with misdemeanors of cruelty to animals and neglect of animals.
