ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Grocery stores are gearing up for Sunday.
According to Progressive Grocer, 69% of Americans are expected to tune in to the big game.
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are the biggest shopping days, second to Thanksgiving.
The displays are out along with all the deals and steals at Redner’s in Allentown.
“I’m going to have a few of the guys over,” said Manny Carrera of Allentown. He’s stocking up on his Super Bowl staples.
“I’m going to grab a couple of frozen pizzas, some peach iced tea and some tacos with the cheese,” he said.
He may not have stakes in the game, but he watches every year.
“Unfortunately, I was born and raised in New York, and Boston, we don’t like Boston so I’m going for Seahawks,” Carrera said.
Julio Rodriguez is knocking out half of his shopping list on Thursday, and the rest closer to the game.
“Buffalo wings, chips with dips and of course beer,” Rodriguez said. “I’m going to have to root for the Patriots because I’m a Buffalo Bill fan.”
Robert Check is dreaming of wings…
“Chicken wings with the buffalo sauce,” Check said. He plans to finish his shopping this weekend.
In an analysis from Wells Fargo, consumers may notice a flip flop in prices on Super Bowl staples this year. Wings are up by 7%, veggies are down by 7%, avocados and guacamole dip are up 11.5%, and shrimp are down by 4%, with most customers spending an average of $139 per 10 people.
If you’re looking to beat the crowds, Thursday and Friday are the best days to shop for the Super Bowl. Saturday, one employee tells us, will be pandemonium.
