‘The Legends House’ teaches Philly youth about self-worth through art

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — Shayna Yvonne Rudd’s mission is to teach self-worth to Philadelphia youth through the power of art.

Her traveling studio, The Legends House, focuses on mental wellness programming specifically for young girls.

Rudd ensures that they are able to express themselves and learn about perseverance through dance, acting, and more.

“Being a part of our program is about nurturing worthiness. It’s about knowing where you come from, and it’s about taking that out to the world. But it’ll start here at the house and then it reverberates and hopefully we can change a nation,” said Rudd.

“I was really anxious and I was really depressed…Miss Shayna and the Legends House, they just helped me get through that. She’s not only a dance teacher…she continues to be there for us as if we were her own daughters,” said Riley Blackwell of Abington, Pennsylvania.
