Smoke was visible for miles in the city on Thursday afternoon as a home on East 23rd Street went up in flames.
Calls came in at 3 pm for the residential fire; several Erie Fire Department crews responded.
While there weren’t any reported injuries, some animals were unable to be saved, including one dog and several cats.
The home only had one occupant, who was not there at the time of the fire
Portions of East 23rd Street and Parade Street were shut down for several hours.
To contain the flames, firefighters ran water hoses through a neighboring house, spraying water out of those windows
That rental home next door sustained some fire damage as well.
