After being under a Level 1 for about an hour early Friday morning, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office escalated to a Level 2 “due to black ice on the roadways caused from freezing mist.”
“Road crews are out, however, please use extreme caution if you must travel this morning,” according to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office.
Their Facebook post also includes an image with the following caption: Roadways are hazardous due to blowing and driving snow and/or ice. Only those who believe it is necessary to drive should be on the roadways.”
In a Facebook post shared last month, the Ohio Department of Transportation noted the following: “ODOT does not issue snow emergency levels. Your local sheriff’s office holds jurisdiction over issuing them. Stay informed about the status in your county on social media or on the news. Adhere to the levels for your safety.”
