$500,000 in federal funding will be provided to Gannon University courtesy of U.S. Senator Dave McCormick. The funding received will go towards the ongoing development of two biomedical laboratories on Gannon’s Erie campus. These laboratories will advance cancer treatment and strengthen the development in the healthcare workforce.

First Ascent Biomedical and AHN Saint Vincent laboratories will be located on the fourth floor of the I-HACK building.

“We are deeply appreciative of this support of our First Ascent Biomedical lab. These funds obtained through Sen. McCormick’s efforts will immediately support new jobs in Erie, Pa., at First Ascent, as well as aid the development of two academic programs designed to fill gaps in the region’s healthcare workforce for years to come,” said Gannon President Walter Iwanenko, Ph.D.

The overall funding is part of an entire series dedicated to improving public safety, infrastructure, education, healthcare and economic development throughout Pennsylvania.

The project has also been supported by Governor Josh Shapiro, the Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority, the Erie Community Foundation, the Lutheran Foundation for Longterm Living and amongst other local partners.

The construction for the project is expected to be fully complete later in the year.
